While it’s a relief that the month-long drama over who New York Governor David Paterson would pick to fill Hillary Clinton’s US Senate seat, at lease one of his claims at a news conference in Albany Friday was absurd and impossible on it’s face.
In his lengthy explanation of how he arrived at upstate Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand as “the best choice”, Paterson said, “This was not based on gender, on geographic location, on race, religion or sexual orientation. This decision was made on who the best candidate would actually be.”

A lot of ink has been spilled about Barack Obama’s Inaugural Address. Was it soaring enough? Did he sound more like Roosevelt or Kennedy? Did he miss the chance to inspire? Was he too mean to George Bush and therefore petty and small? Did he betray his base? It goes on and on.

Nothing pisses me off more than when people seem to think that facts are some sort of variable that don’t have a set value. I’ve been a reporter for 22 years and it doesn’t matter whether I’ve covered politics or business or crime, there are always people who seem to believe that if they say something is true, repeat it, get the gullible media to then pick it up, that it will become a fact. Unfortunately they are often correct.
