Jay DeDapper
Jay DeDapper is a 22-year veteran reporter who has spent the last decade covering politics in New York.
From 1998 until early 2009 he worked for WNBC as their political correspondent covering candidates, campaigns, governments, and issues. He followed Hillary Clinton’s unsuccessful presidential quest from one end of the country to the other after doing the same during her winning bid for Senate in 2000. He covered the disgraced fall of New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and the rise of Senator Chuck Schumer after beating the legendary Al D’Amato in 1998.
Along the way he has won the prestigious Walter Cronkite Award, numerous Emmy Awards, and a host of other broadcast journalism prizes. His work on the long-running award-winning “What Matters” series broke ground in the way television explained the facts behind the issues in campaigns and whether candidates were being completely honest in their promises.
Throughout his reporting he has always maintained a keen eye on what’s demonstrably true and what’s just talk. He’s passionate about checking claims made by public officials and the media against what is known to be factual. He lives in New York City.
