OK so it’s not the most surprising headline and many people probably believe it could be a daily column but this is a special episode of “Bill O’Reilly is Allergic to Facts.” Today’s episode: Newspaper circulation.
O’Reilly’s syndicated column is essentially a hearty har-har-har over the troubles at the New York Times which is, of course, a favorite topic among the legions of Americans who hate the “paper of record.” There’s certainly plenty to write about on that score but Bill takes the super lazy way out insists the paper’s problems …

Two things have caught my attention in the last week that point out the deep and unmistakable hypocrisy of some Catholics who eagerly wade into American politics. First up: Notre Dame’s decision to give President Barack Obama an honorary degree.
The decision has rocked the Catholic and conservative political chattering classes because Obama supports abortion rights and the Church does not. Mary Ann Glendon has gotten a lot of play in the past 48 hours after posting a letter to Notre Dame explaining why she — a former US Ambassador to …

It’s a recurring theme of Get Real but only because Republicans keep doing things that prove the point. The Pity Party seems absolutely bent on self-destruction by following all the old rules for the old game that they can’t stop playing.
Take John Boehner, leader of the House Republican minority. Sunday George Stephanopoulos had him on to talk about the Republican alternatives to Barack Obama’s proposals including on global warming:
…the idea that carbon dioxide is a carcinogen that is harmful to our environment is almost comical. Every time we exhale, we …

There a few things more certain in life than this: Hyper-partisans (left and right) will twist everything and anything to fit their worldview. Today’s case in point comes courtesy of Red State and a contributor who speculates that the Somali pirates who have attacked and apparently captured an American-flagged cargo vessel did so because they know Barack Obama is a wuss.
While the author is correct no U.S. flagged vessel has been successfully attacked by pirates to this point it’s worth noting how few American-flagged vessels there are any more. The …

At the risk of sounding like a broken record (kids: a long time ago people listened to music on things called records and sometimes they got scratched and skipped and played the same little section of a song over and over and over and…oh never mind) Republicans just don’t get it.
The kerfuffle over Barack Obama’s “Tonight Show” appearance is so incredibly telling — and sad if you were hoping for a reasonably adept opposition to push back on Barack occasionally. The usual suspects and brothers in arms — The New …

So let’s just put this up front: Nobody really knows what the f*ck is going on with the economy. But still, there are some “experts” that really shouldn’t even be allowed to speak or write or exist.
Remember the heady days almost precisely a decade ago of the dot com boom? Thanks to new technology and supersmart economists the world’s advanced economies had little to worry about in the way of recessions or downturns. Sure there might be a hiccup here or there but the bad old days of economic cycles …

Sunday’s NY Times had a Week in Review front-pager on how conservatives have decided on “socialism” as their primary rhetorical weapon against Barack Obama and the Democrats. The piece had plenty of examples and a nice bit asking an actual socialist in Congress (Vermont’s junior Senator Bernie Sanders) what he thinks of it all. But it was left to the editor laying out the pages to point out what this really represents.
In the next column over from the article’s Page 3 jump is another piece entitled “Ailing GOP Risks Losing …

Forget the performance critiques of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal’s Republican response to Barack Obama’s State-of-the-Union-in-name-only speech Tuesday night. Plenty of Democrats sucked in the same role following the far less gifted orator George W Bush (remember Tim Kaine in 2006 or Harry Reid in 2005? Lordy they were bad!). Jindal’s problem wasn’t performance, it was substance and it reaffirms our diagnosis that the Republican Party is in critical condition.
Many Republicans leaders, egged on by right-wing radio hosts like Rush and Hannity, have charted a course of total opposition to the …

For the better part of a year people on all sides of the political and economic theory spectrum have been saying the economic meltdown cannot be fixed until the mortgage mess is cleared up. Now Barack Obama is taking action to do just that. But is it enough?
That’s been the question asked of every action the previous and current administrations have taken trying to respond to the recession and it’s entirely appropriate this time. Obama’s plan could cost $275 billion over time and will help a maximum of around nine …

Sean Delonas is no stranger to ire. Indeed if his years-long roster of incendiary cartoons for the New York Post are any indication, he lives for it.
There was Freddy Ferrer kissing Al Sharpton’s butt in 2001. The sheep all dressed up for a wedding after same-sex marriage passed in New Jersey. The Muslim terrorists cheering for the Democratic midterm wins in 2006.
Delonas has penned so many apparently anti-gay cartoons that he’s become practiced at denying he’s a homophobe (homophobe? He’s far more likely a homo-something-else considering how obsessed he is …
